"“Rassera, Rassera” is what you will be chanting as you participate in Aomori’s Nebuta Festival. As one of the Three Great Festivals of Tohoku Region, Aomori’s Nebuta Festival is a six-day celebration jam-packed with massive lantern floats, taiko drummers, and ""haneto"" dancers (a special Nebuta parade dance) parading down the streets. The parade route is 3 km long and comes with plenty of ground seating as well as reserved seating for purchase. During the day, festival-goers can go to Rassera Land right next to the Aomori Prefecture Tourist Center (or ""ASPM"" Building) and get and up-close look at the floats, take pictures, and meet the designers. At the ASPM, you can watch various festival performances, as well as purchase food, drinks, and souvenirs. The Aomori Nebuta Festival takes place from August 2nd to 7th.

During the Night Parades are when these spectacles of skill truly amaze, as hundreds of bamboo poles rise into the air at once, each loaded with lit lanterns. Ground seating is free along with the option to purchase reserved seats as well. During the day, visit Agora Plaza and take part in entertaining events such as testing your balancing abilities with smaller kanto, attending Kanto competitions to cheer on your favorite performers, or visiting the Kanto Museum to learn all about the history of the festival. While exploring the Akita Kanto Festival, take time to enjoy some of their delicious festival foods from the stalls around the festival area.

The streamers carry a lot of significance, representing threads woven by the Weaving Princess of the Tanabata story. There are also several other events such as live music and dance performances. Although Sendai’s Tanabata Festival is not as long as the other two great Tohoku festivals, it is still considered to be one of the most famous festivals in all of Japan.
