Yoshimizu Shrine

Yoshimizu Shrine was established around the 8th century and used to be a location to practice Shugendo. It has also been a shelter for a number of historical figures in Japan like Minamoto no Yoshitsune and Emperor Daigo. When Emperor Daigo created the Southern Court the shrine was the Imperial Palace for his competing court. Even though Yoshimizu Shrine isn’t big in size, but it was the location that hosted Toyotomi Hideyoshi’s cherry blossom viewing of more than 5000 people. A special location on site written in kanji will translate” a view of 1000 cherry blossom trees.” In 2004, Yoshimizu Shrine was designated as part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The main building has exhibits that feature historic documents, weapons, paintings and other objects.

Guests requiring such individualized assistance must be accompanied by an able-bodied companion who can provide it.
