Beppu Hells

The hells of Beppu attract thousands of travelers as a viewing area of the iconic hot springs of Oita Prefecture, Japan. One of the famous springs also known as the landmark of the hells of Buppu is the Chinoike Jigoku or Bloody hell spring, which glows with a slightly natural crimson red. Visitors can experience the bloody spring by soaking into the free foot bath offered on the side. While at the Umi Jigoku, the beauty of the sea hell with clear water and spacious gardens provide guests with a more refreshing atmosphere compared to the other hells. Boiling mud bubbles at Oniishibozu Jigoku also offer guests a free foot bath in the muddy osen, which was once closed off to visitors, but later reopened in 2002. At Oniyama Jigoku, travelers can see crocodiles moving around in the ponds along with a gallery with information on the crocodiles and the history of this facility. The Kamado Jigoku is famous for the stream reaching over 90 degrees Celsius used to cook varies snacks in the area. The white pond and gardens are popular among locals along with a tropical aquarium and Buddhism art. At the Tatsumaki Jigoku, visitors are surrounded by beautiful flowers and butterflies followed by the famous geysers at this location. Don’t forget to try out some of the specialty items like the osen eggs, osen pudding and bloody pound cream only available at the Hells of Beppu.
