Shimanami Kaido

The Shimanami Kaido consists of connecting bridges starting from Onomichi town located on the Honshu Island as part of Hiroshima Prefecture. A span of over 60 kilometers of this toll bridge connecting Honshu to Shikoku Island, while Shimanami Kaido is the only one which offers path ways for travelers to experience on foot or bicycle. Nishiseto Expressway is the official name of the toll bridges which include Kurushima-Kaikyo Bridge standing as the longest suspension bridge structure in the world, as well as Tatara Bridge, ranking as one of the world’s top cable-stayed bridges. The modern bridges attract cyclists from all over the world to ride along a well maintained cycling route while taking in the scenic views of the Seto Inland Sea and surrounding islands. The route also runs smoothly without large inclines which provides a smooth ride even for casual cyclists in search of an afternoon activity. Japanese locals also enjoy cruising on the bridge for a weekend drive which leads to Shikoku Island, another route provided for the perfect weekend getaway at another prefecture of Japan.
