The Kubota Itchiku Art Museum first opened in 1994 and features the work of Kubota Itchiku who revived the lost art of Tsujigahana silk dyeing. He developed his own style of tsujigahana, which was a popular technique for dyeing kimonos around the Muromachi period (1338- 1573). It became a lost technique around the 17th century. The museum is located in a wooded hill along the coast of Lake Kawaguchi. The main building was made with Hiba trees that are more than 1000 years old. Inside the main building area you can see Kubota Itchiku’s unfinished masterpiece the “Symphony of Light.” It is supposed to be an 80 kimono piece showing Mount Fuji through the four seasons. His children continue to finish the masterpiece. There is also a garden area for visitors to stroll around that Kubota designed himself. Next to the reception building is a waterfall and outdoor stage where events are occasionally held.
