Adachi Museum of Art

The museum was founded by Adachi Zenko in 1980 in order to create a world that combined both artwork and gardens together. He hoped to expand people’s perceptions and interests in Japanese Art. You can only view the gardens from the Adachi Museum of Art building as you enjoy paintings and artwork dating back to the twentieth century. The gardens at the museum have won annual awards since 2003 as the best garden in Japan by the “Journal of Japanese Gardening.” Throughout the year the feel of the Zen gardens change with the seasons. With those changes the museum switch out the works displayed in the temporary exhibits to match the season.

At the Adachi Museum of Art there are permanent exhibits that feature paintings by Yokoyama Taikan, he is mostly known for helping develop the Japanese painting technique known as Nihonga. The painting technique is based on using Japanese techniques, artistic expressions, and materials. Aside from that exhibit there is also the ceramics section that features the works by Kawai Kanjiro and Kitaoji Rosanjin. You can see about 50 works made by these master artists being displayed in the exhibit.
